We fall in love with Jesus, and then intangibly
and improbably, life becomes rich in expectation. He loves and forgives. Grace and mercy become extraordinarily part
of our breath and existence.
We stand at the cross and wonder at
it all.
But then our eyes lower and we see
those closest to us with the eyes we have held for Jesus. And the path of expectation no longer ends at
the cross but in disappointment and discontentment.
To shore up our hope we must remove expectation
from everyone but Jesus. There is
contentment there in that place, that empty place left for holiness alone. Allow God to hold heaven and everyone else, allow them room. Room to fail, room
to frustrate, room to not be God. Then
we find peace.
Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do
not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible
and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of
your souls. 1 Peter 1:18
